Open Not (Script)
Posted by Liberzon Saidy
Summer of 2012, our summer class teacher gave us an assignment to make a short story, a fiction one. A story that is something unreal . The next day when we submitted our work, she then told us to make a script out of what we made. That was for our next lesson which is the genre crossing. So from short story to script then to a role play.
And this is the scripted version of my short story Open Not.

SCENE
It was around 5 o’clock in the afternoon when Angelica’s family arrived at her grandfather’s old house.
Angelica: Oh what a trip was that? My but felt like I was sitting on a grill pan full of blazing fire. That’s very tiring.
Anton: You should get use to it Lica. Besides all you did is sleep and text.
Angelica: Okay fine whatever.
Lucia: Lica help me put our things to our room.
Dina: Hello Ma’am Lucia and Sir Anton. Welcome back. Don Angelito is very eager to see you. He is very excited to see you. He has been waiting for quite a while.
(She look at Angelica leaning on the car while texting.)
Is that Angelica? Look at her; she has grown fast, hasn’t she? What a beautiful girl.
Lucia: Oh yes that’s her. Angelica, greet your aunt Dina. She was the one baby sitting you when you were still a baby.
Angelica: Hi Aunt Dina.
(Ramon is approaching together with a 15 year old boy beside him, Angelo.)
Anton: My friend, Ramon. How are you?
Ramon: I’m very good my friend. Good to see you again it has really been quite a while since your last visit here in your father’s place. He is really anxious to see you and Lucia, especially her only granddaughter, Angelica.
Anton: Yeah I know. Is this Angelo? He looks like a man already. How are you boy?
Angelo: I’m good Uncle Anton. Let’s come in please. Don Angelito is waiting.
Lucia: Okay, let’s come in. Angelica, bring our bags.
Angelica: Ma, it’s too heavy.
Angelo: Don’t worry Aunt Lucia, father and I will carry it for you. Angelica, you don’t need to carry it. You can get inside now.
Angelica: Well, that’s very nice of you. Thanks. (Sarcastic way)
Angelo: So you still haven’t recovered from our childhood fights? (Smiling)
Angelica: Whatever Angelo, you’re such a loser.
Anton: Lica, watch your language!
Ramon: Ever since you’ve been dogs and cats. Angelo let’s start unloading their bags and bring it in their rooms.
Anton: Thank you my friend.
(They enter the house)
Angelito: Anton, Lucia, Angelica, welcome back I miss you so much.
Anton: Hello father, we miss you too.
Lucia: Father its good to see you still strong and healthy. How are you?
Angelito: I’m as strong as a cow. Angelica, my lovely granddaughter, come here.
Angelica: I miss you too grandpa. I’m glad you’re good.
(The family talked for about more than an hour until Dina called for the dinner.)
Dina: Dinner time. I’m sure you’re all hungry from a long trip.
Angelica: Thank God its dinner time. I’m starving already.
(After dinner…)
Angelo: Hi Angelica. How are you?
Angelica: I’m fine.
Angelo: Good. Are you mad?
Angelica: Why should I?
Angelo: Yeah right, why should you be mad? So I think I got to go my room. Good night.
(Angelica did not answer.)
(Everybody in the house were sleeping but Angelica could not sleep so she explored the house until she reached the storage room and found something strange)
Angelica: What’s this?
(She picked a silver box and read the note in the cover.)
Open not?! How could anyone not open this box if the key itself was stuck on the latch?
Oh my, it’s almost a hundred year old staff. Cool.
(She read the first page and said…)
Do not read
“If you are stubborn enough not to follow my warning then that’s not my problem anymore. As you read these lines you are already opening the gate of the most impossible world you could hardly think of. But beware! As you open this gate, you are also putting your life into a serious danger. But I guess I can help you, at least, in extending your life as you go along with this journey. Well, luckily I had already surpassed all those crazy things that almost killed me that you will also experience too soon. And oh, let me tell you that you’re reading this booklet not by chance but by choice. You are one of the chosen ones. You are the next one who will step on my shoes so good luck chosen one.”
Total crap!
(Something fell behind her and saw a baton.)
How can they dump this wonderful baton in such a rubbish place? I would certainly love to keep this.
OMG. I love this booklet it’s very funny. It seems so true. Whew, it made me sweat now.
(Someone behind her picked the box)
How dare you scare me to the bones Angelo?!
Angelo: Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.
Angelica: What are you doing here?
Angelo: I heard a bang a while ago and I saw a flash of light outside my window so I guess as the caretaker’s son, it is my duty to check if there is anything wrong with the house.
Angelica: Wow that’s so thoughtful. And how did you know I’m here?
Angelo: I really don’t know that you’re here. I’m just checking. Wait, how did you get that staff?
Angelica: I just saw it behind me with that bicycle after reading this booklet. Why? Do you have any intentions of getting this from? Well you…
Angelo: Oh my God! This can’t be true. Impossible!
Angelica: What impossible are you talking about boy? Can you further explain yourself? You’re getting me nuts.
Angelo: Come on let’s get out of this place now!
Angelica: What? Can you please tell me why?
Angelo: Okay, you just got your ticket to hell Angelica. You are one of the chosen!
Angelica: Chosen? Of what? Are you sure you’re okay? Hello?
Angelo: I’m deadly serious Angelica so don’t joke on this.
Angelica: Okay! Sorry. So tell me everything.
Angelo: That booklet, that indicates that you’re a chosen one. You are one of the seven teenagers who will fight against the forces of underworld. You’re an angel Angelica. You are going to die if you can’t defeat the evil forces. And that stick you are holding,
Angelica: It’s not a stick, it’s a baton.
Angelo: Whatever, that is the Winggard, that’s your weapon. And that bicycle that’s the Winggamot’s Cycle, that is your ride. We better get out of here before they come.
Angelica: Really? So how did you know all these?
Angelo: Believe me, I know. And you better read that booklet you are holding before it’s too late for you and I’m an angel too.
Angelica: So you really are nuts. How did you invent this story? I know I look like an angel but I’m no angel at all. And who’s coming? The devil? Maybe you’re just sleepy or you just haven’t eaten your dinner that’s why your inventing these crazy things in your head.
(A black weird human like thing appeared in front of them.)
Oh my God!
Devil: Hello children! Are you ready to die?
(Angelo snatched his necklace and it transformed into some kind of a weapon.)
Angelo: I told you. The battle of angels and demons has just begun. Hey you devil, I’ve already prepared your place in heaven so start praying now.
Devil: That’s a funny joke. Can you strike another joke for me? You’re making me laugh.
Angelica: What is that thing?
Angelo: It’s a devil. They are our enemies.
Angelica: Am I dreaming? If I am, I want to wake up. (Slapping her face)
Angelo: You’re not dreaming. This is real. Use your weapon to help me.
(The devil charged them and Angelo lashed his diamond chain whip to their enemy.)
Devil: And oh another angel. Would you be kind enough to introduce us before I kill you both?
Angelo: She’s Angelica and she’s going to kill you.
Devil: Oh that’s sweet. Hi Angelica? Are you ready to die?
Angelica: In your dreams devil! Angelo, Tell me what to do. Tell me how to use this Wingard, whatever is the name of this stuff.
Angelo: Just think of whatever you want to do with your weapon. It can lash magic or you can make it a sword, anything!
Angelica: Wow cool. Okay let me try.
(Angelica waved the baton and a light exploded in its tip while the wings on her baton flipped into life and when the light subsided the devil was gone already.)
Angelo: Wow! Cool! How did you do that?
Angelica: I just thought of exploding the devil. Is he gone?
Angelo: Yes. Let’s get out of here. Many are still coming. We need to find the other angels. Take your staff. By now let’s get a good rest because the battle has just begun.
Angelica: How about the other devils, they might come.
Angelo: No they only send one devil at a time when a new angel was chosen. And now, it’s you. So let us just be prepared for the coming days. They surely come back.
